はじめに At first
今回はイギリスに暮らし始めて驚いたことについてつらつらとまとめてみました．
This time, I summarized the things that surprised me when I started living in the UK.

車について About the vehicle
まず，空港に到着してからアパートまでバスで移動したのですが，車の速度に驚きました．
First of all, after arriving at the airport, I took a bus to my apartment and was surprised by the speed of the car.
「この細い道をこの速さで進む？」と感じるほど．
I was surprised how fast the locals run on narrow roads.
おそらく100km/h程の速度は出ているかと思います．．
I think the speed is probably about 60 mph.
調べてみると，一般道路での最高速度は95km/hのようです！
When I looked it up, it seems that the maximum speed on ordinary roads is 60mph.

日本の最高速度が60km/hと考えると，かなり速いですね💦
Considering that the maximum speed of the Japan is approximately 37mph, it is quite fast.
ちなみに，イギリスでの速度の単位はヤード・ポンド法のマイル「mph(mi/h)」で表現するようです．
By the way, the unit of speed in the UK is expressed in the imperial system.
ただし街の方ではだとカメラがそこら中にあり，スピード違反をすると翌日以降に手紙が届いてお金を払って講習を受けなければならないらしいので注意が必要らしいです．．
However, in the city, there are cameras , and if you speed out, you will receive a letter after the next day and you will have to pay to take the course, so you need to be careful.
私が暮らしている場所は田舎なので，地元の方々はビュンビュン飛ばしています．
I live in the countryside, so the locals skip it.
車を運転するのが嫌だったので，徒歩か自転車で通勤できないかと思っていたのですが，「引かれるよ？」と言われ仕方なく車を購入することになります．
I didn't want to drive, so I was wondering if I could walk or bike to work, but I had no choice but to buy a car because I was told my boss, "I'm going to be pulled."
さらに，イギリスではマニュアル車が主流．
Furthermore, manual cars are the mainstream in the UK.
オートマ車もあるのですが，マニュアル車よりも高いです．
There is also an automatic car, but it is higher than a manual car.
マニュアルで免許を取っといてよかったと思います．
I'm glad I got my license in the manual.
横断歩道の渡り方 How to cross a pedestrian crossing
先日ロンドンへ行ったときに，赤信号でも人が渡っていて「えっ？」と驚きました．
When I went to London the other day, I was surprised to see people crossing even at a red light, so I thought "What?"
道路を観てみると「←LOOK LEFT」の文字が. If you look at the road, you will see the words "←LOOK LEFT".☟
これは，「信号が赤でも左から車が来なければ渡っていいよ」ということなのだそうです．
This means that even if the traffic light is red, you can cross if no car comes from the left.
このルールは時間の節約になっていいな，と思いました．
I thought this rule would save me time.
アパート編 Flat
コンセントについて Socket
コンセントの形が日本とは異なります．
The shape of the outlet is different from the Japan.
イギリスでのコンセントの型は顔のような形をしています☟笑
The type of outlet in England is shaped like a face.
ご旅行やこれからイギリスに住まわれる予定の方は，ご注意ください．
If you are travelling or planning to live in the UK, please be careful.
旅行や留学などの短期間では変換プラグを購入するのでことが足りると思いますが，
I think it is enough to buy a conversion plug for a short period of time such as travel or study abroad,
イギリスに長期間滞在する方は，イギリスのコンセントに対応したコードを買うべきだそうです．
If you are staying in the UK for a long time, you should buy a cord that is compatible with the UK outlet.
というのもこちらの流れる電圧は日本よりも大きいので，電化製品の故障や，火災の原因となってしまいます.
This is because the voltage flowing here is larger than Japan, which may cause failure of electrical appliances or fires.
In Japan homes, the voltage is 100V, but in the UK the voltage is 240V.
Compared to Japan, it is quite a high voltage．
Therefore, it is convenient that the hot water in the pot and the microwave can be heated immediately.
変換プラグ Conversion plug☟☟
日本からパソコンや，iPhone, iPad など電子機器を持って行ったのですが，コンセントの型が合わないので，充電器を買い直すこととなりました．．．🤣
I took my personal computer and electronic devices such as iPhones and iPads from Japan, but the shape of the outlet did not fit, so I had to buy a new charger.
また，アパートのコンセントの挿し口の横には「ON/OFF」の切り替えスイッチがついています．
In addition, there is an "ON/OFF" switch next to the outlet of the outlet in the flat.
これも流れている電圧が強い関係で，火災防止のために使用後はOFFにしなければならないようです．
This is also due to the strong voltage flowing, and it seems that it must be turned off after use to prevent fire.
ヒーターについて heater
イギリスの家にはそれぞれの部屋にストーブのようなものが元々備え付けられております．
In a house in England, each room is equipped with something like a stove.
温度を設定すると，その温度を保たれるようになっているようですね．
It seems that when the temperature is set, the temperature can be maintained.
廊下やシャワールームにまで暖房が備え付けられております．
Heating is provided in the corridors and shower rooms.

逆に，夏の気温がそこまで上昇しないので冷房がついている家が少ないのだとか．．
On the other hand, since the temperature in summer does not rise so much, there are few houses with air conditioning.
それでも暑い日は暑いので夏は涼しいお店に避難するらしい．
Even so, it is hot on hot days, so they take refuge in cool shops in summer.
地域にもよるのでしょうか．．？
Does it differ depending on the region?
少なくとも私が住む家には冷房はないです．
At least there is no air conditioning in the house where I live.
暑いのは苦手なので心配です．
I'm worried because I don't like hot weather.
自分の家の鍵が開かない．．？！My house won't open.
引っ越してすぐに困ったのが，鍵が日本と少し違う．
As soon as I moved, I had a problem with the key, which was a little different from Japan.
日本の鍵は半回転させると閉まったり，開けられたりするのですが，こちらの鍵はコツが必要だと感じました．
The Japan key can be closed or opened when it is turned half a turn, but I felt that this key needed a knack.
扉の取っ手上にも下にも動くし，鍵も１回転以上回すんです‼
The door handle moves up and down, and the key turns more than one turn.
どうやら，二重ロックになっているようで，日本のものよりも防犯性に優れています．
Apparently, it has a double lock and is better burglar resistant than the Japan one.
鍵の開け方を伝授するのに１週間かかりました．笑
It took me a week to learn how to open the lock.
シャワーについて shower
これは恐らく私が住んでいるアパート限定だと思うのですが，お風呂のシャワーが気分屋．
I think this is probably limited to the flat where I live, but the shower in the bath is in the mood.
というのも耐え切れないくらい熱湯になったり，冷たくなったりコロコロ温度が変わることがあります．
The water may become unbearably hot, cold, or the temperature may change.
また，他の家ではお湯が溜まるのに時間がかかるため一気に２人は入れなかったりすることもあるそうです．
Also, in other houses, it takes time for hot water to accumulate, so two people may not be able to enter at once.
設定を知らないだけで変えられるのでしょうか．．？
Can I change it just by not knowing the settings?
イギリスの水は日本とは違い，硬水（カルシウムやマグネシウムを多く含む）なので日本から持ってきた石鹸が泡立たなかったです．
Unlike Japan, the water in the UK is hard water (which contains a lot of calcium and magnesium), so the soap I brought from Japan did not foam.
それからイギリスは紅茶の国がとても有名ですが，紅茶も硬水に合うように作られてるのだとか．
Also, England is very famous for its tea, and black tea is also made to match hard water.
部屋で着るもの What to wear in the room
お風呂に入った後，パジャマに着替えると思うのですが
イギリスではパジャマで部屋の中を出歩くとだらしないとされているようです．
I think I'll change into my pajamas after taking a bath．．
In England it seems that walking around a room in pajamas is considered sloppy.
何を着るかというと「ガウン（バスローブ）」を羽織ります．
What I wear is a gown (bathrobe).
こんな感じの like this☟
もし急に来客の訪問があっても，ガウンを羽織っていれば失礼ではないということになるそうです．
Even if there is a sudden visitor, it is not rude if you wear a gown.
これを機に私もガウンを購入することにします．
Taking this opportunity, I also decide to buy a gown.
Hulu
映画が大好きなので，家でHuluを観ようとしたのですがVPNに繋いでいないと観れないことを知りました．
I love movies, so I tried to watch Hulu at home, but I learned that I couldn't watch it unless I was connected to a VPN.
幸い，私は繋げていたので支障なく利用できております．
Fortunately, I was connected, so I can use it without any problems.
時差と気候 Time difference and climate
イギリスの天候は本当に変化しやすいです．
The weather in England is really changeable.
空を観察していると，雲の流れがとても速くて驚きます．
When I observe the sky, I am surprised at how fast the clouds flow.
さっきまで晴れていたのに急にバケツをひっくり返したような雨が降ったりします．
It was sunny until a moment ago, but suddenly it rained like a bucket turned over.
5月ですが，まだまだ寒く，日本の冬と同じくらいの寒さです．
It's May, but it's still cold, as cold as winter in Japan.
同じ職場の先輩に進められて最近Amazonで湯たんぽを購入しました．笑☟
I was recently promoted by a senior at the same workplace and bought a hot water bottle on Amazon.
